NGATEA SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Ngatea District High School Cominittee was held on Monday evening, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Messrs' C. S. Foster, J. E- Reid, W. J. Clare, Mrs J. N. Anderson, and the. Rev. E. H. Brooker (bon. secretary). STAFF. The secretary reported that no reply had been received to the committee’s application for additional, staff to cope with the large attendanceThe average attendance during the past two quarters was 120.1, and the attendance required to secure another teacher was 12015. Guarantees had been received for 20 pupils for the secondary department next year. Discussing the question of housing the scholars next year, it was pointed out that a- class would have to be accommodated in the public hall, pr in the corridor. No reply had been received from the Education Board other than- the fact that the inspector had recommended additional class, rooms. Mrs Anderson suggested applying to the department for a portable building until such time as a decision was reached in regard to the-establish-ment of a junior high school. There was a big chance of this being provided during the holidays, whereas there was little chance of getting alterations, and additions authorised by that timeIt was decided to forward a strongly worded request for a pprtable building. SCHOOL PICNIC. The question of the annual pchool picnic was discussed, the opinion being that it should be held during February. . CLEANING OF TANKS. The cleaning of ,all .the school tanks during the holidays was authorised. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, The Auckland Education Board wrote in response to the committee’s inquiries for information concerning the establishment of junior high schools and advised .that in view of the many such applications now before the Education Department it was, unlikely that a request fQr a junior high school at Ngatea would receive favourable consideration at tne present time. A copy of a circular Letter to education boards from the Director bf Education w,a& enclosedi. It stated that in view of the large number of applications received the whole question would shortly be considered by the Government, when a final reply hi each case would be given. Any building proposals that had‘been deferred through the consideration ofthese proposals would be dealt with as quickly as possible, irrespective of the junior high school proposal. DEPARTURE OF TEACHERS. The chairman said he understood that the school would lose the services of two of the teachers at the end of ,the year. He moved that the committee’s appreciation of their services, be placed on record, and that ■the secretary send letters of appreciation to .them, —Carried, The teachers who are leaving are Miss Hendereon and Miss Mason.
