PIGS IN ENGLAND AND WALES.
18 PER CENT. DECREASE
"The Grocer” writes: According to the Agricultural Returns of England and Wales, as returned by holders on June 4 of this year, it is stated that “the exceptionally large number of pigs recoi'ded last year has not been maintained, but in spite of the reduction of 585,000. or 18 per cent,, the number is still large as compared with previous years, being 379,000 above the average of the ten years, 1915-24. Breeding sows show a relatively sharper reduction than other pigs and the total is only 2000 above the ten year’s average.” The total number of sows kept for breeding on June 4 this year was, 316,300, against 449,000 a year ago at this time, and the total number of other pigs 2,236,700, against 2,779,300 in 1924..
