OHINEMURI COUNTY.
—“MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING, r ■ — The regular meeting of the Ohinemmi County Council was held at Pacroa yesterday afternoon, the chairman (Cr. W. F. Johnstone) presiding over the following: Crs. H."M. Corbett, A. R. Robinson, F. C. Hubbard, A. D. McGuire, P. Corbett, R. R. Morrison, f C. E. Mace, and the clerk (Mr R. Evans) and the engineer (Mr E. , Shaw). CADMAN ROAD BRIDGE. The engineer-in-chlef, Public Works Department, wrote stating that as the council was not in a position to undertake the erection of the bridge over the’ drain on Cadman' Road, Paeroa, at a cost of £2OO, the department •had decided to erect the structure S-With its own staff on completion of the Waitete bridge on .the PaeroaAWaihi main highway. . MOTOR REGISTRATIONS. The chairman of the No. 2 District ‘ Highway's. Council forwarded a return showing that 7281 motor-cars, 1035 .one-ton trucks, 139 motor buses, .24 tractors, 12 road rollers, 9 fire engines; 5 ambulances, and 2117 motor cycles had been-registered in the' No. •2 highways district up to October 31. V PURCHASE OF PLANT. - The Main Highways Board, forwarded the following circular in connection with thfi purchase of plant and machinery for local bodies:— j_. .“In reference to circular 25/1925,' . ;-another case was recently before the ; -board w*here a local body< had its.el.f ■- placed an order for plant which the • -board indicated it would purchase. In view of this, the board has decided to notify local authorities that if, in the future, an order for plant which the board is asked to purchase on behalf of any local body Ist placed by the local body itself, the board will not accept any responsibility either in tne , direction of paying the seller’s] claim or /reimbursing the local authority if payment is made direct by it to. the firm from which the plant is purchased.”' CLASSIFICATION OF ROADS. The engineer-in-chief, Public Works Department, wrote in connection with the classification of 'roads in the Ohinemuri County,, stating that the descriptions such as “all roads in the •■? county ’' other than main highways-, were useless -for 'classification pur- • poses. Before any- action could be taken in respect to the matter it would be necessary for the council, to ?. comply with -paragraph 2 of Motor (Lorry Regulation No. 7. The chairman said that the clerk • was waiting for the board to forward a copy of ite amended regulations. Cr. H. M. Corbett maintained that it v. ould.be necessary to classify each road separately. ' ’ TIMBER- REVENUE. The State'Forest Service forwarded ~ vouchers for 14s 3d, being amount due j. to the council in respect of revenue ... ‘received ■ from- the sale of timber on State forest reserves, for the period from April to September, -1925. Cr. Morgan pointed out that a considerable amount of timber had been cut ,in the Waitawheta Gorge, J but when a. claim: had been.' made for revenue the. council had been -advised that ..the timber had been cut before " the amendment to the Act had been passed. It was -decided to seek the aid of " the -member for the ; district ‘ with a view to receiving revenue for'the timber cut subsequently. WATER TO NGAHINA WHARF. The P,aeroa Borough Council, wrote that it had no objection to the erection of-a , water tank at the Ngajrhina wharf, Paeroa, in order to.rem- ■ edy the disadvantage suffered by consumers when, water wajs. being drawn for the steamers. It was understood that- the county, would erect the .tank at. its own expense to the satisfaction of the. borough, and that no structural damage would result to the wharf Property. . The engineer was .authorised to proceed .with the work. CLOSING OF ROAD. A firm of Te Aroha solicitors wrote /with reference to a portion of section 2 B 2, block V,, Aroha Survey District, which was originally owned ’'T)’y ATerea Wirikihana and other natives. It was; pointed out that some time ago the council had opened a new road on the boundary of the property, and;; the old road which ran through the section Wap closed and vested in the owners. Advice was sought as to • steps had been taken'with a view to vesting the closed road in the.names-of-the - persons, entitled, as the old road had been closed by proclamation, but no instructions had' been given for -.the '■ issue of a new title. / j It was decided to close the road and the transaction; .CRITERION BRIDGE. The Paeroa Borough Council forwarded a copy of a letter received from the Public Works Department, together with planp and specifications,, of .the proposed new traffic bridge over " the Ohinemuri River at Paeroa,. In a later letter the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) forwarded a resolution passed by the Bordugh Council relative .to. the allocation of! .the cost of the bridge..' He asked the County Council, to meet the borough in conference , and discuss the matter. The .request was acceded to, and the chairman, and Crs, H., M. Corbett and A R. Robinson were appointed a sub- : committee lo attend ,the conference.It was also resolved that the County Council disclaimed all liability in connection with the erection of the bridge. DUMPING OF TRUCKS. Cr. Mol risen drew attention to the Tact that the Hauraki Mains County had been dumping its disused -metal trucks near the entrance to the bowling green at Hikutaia, there’by constituting a nuisance and makiing the area, look unsightly. Cr. Robinson supported the remarks. It was decided to write to the local s-body concerned and request the re- • -i—h# 1 the nil
