~ “I am of the opinion that <all employers should supply homes for their employees,” said Mr Hope Gibbons at the Power Board meeting .at Wanganui, when the question of acquiring, an area of land for building purposes came up. The board adopted the •principal, and decided,. Subject to further inquiries as to the price of the land, to acquire a certain area in Moore Avenue, Gonville,. on which three houses will, be built, and let to three of the board's officials on a rental, basis of seven per- cent. A small committee wag set up to go intothe question. The following extract from 1 the half--yearly report of the town clerk to the Cambridge Borough Council appears, in .the Waikato Independe.it: “The receipts for the halfi-year shows a deficit on both the general and the water supply accounts. This is the effect of ratepayers holding tlieir remittances the .last few days of grace, the payment of current rates to date being very, poor. It will be well for the council to consider the' allowance of a rebate for prompt payment ?of rates for the next finamcialyear.”
