PLAINS COUNTY COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Hauraki Plains, County Council was held at Ngatea on Monday, Cr. J. C. Miller presiding over Crs. J. F. Mayn, T. McLoughlin, J. H. Nicholson, C. Parfitt, W. Madgwick, C. W. Harris, and W. G. Hayward. TURUA ROADING. The meeting had been called to consider matters in connection with the Turua southern area reading scheme, and other matters. During the morning the council visited Turua; and inspected the reads. After returning .to the county office Cr. Madgwick reported that he had conferred with the .pood Roads Committee. The matter had been gone into very fully, and ft had been agTeW that the”balance of the Turua-Nether-ton road and the Kenepeehi-Wharepoa rb'a-d should receive the bottom course of metal, and Huirau Road, which had received its bottom course, should be completed with bitumen. This would use all the money. If a subsidy was obtained the council would then have sufficient money in hand to complete the work. If the subsidy could not be obtained the council could consider raising a further loan of 10 per cent, of the original, loan. The council considered the suggestion the wisest plan and adopted it. TIMBER FLOATING. . The Department of Lands and Survey notified that an application had been submitted to the Land Board by the Parker Lamb Timber Co. for a timber-floating license over the Hikutaia stream. The application would be heard on the 25th inistant. . _ The clerk reported that on the instructions of .the chairman he had written entering an objection, as the blocking of the water in the stream might have the result of stopping the council’s metal quarrying operations and delivery. Councillors said that the driving of logs'would spoil all. the work done by the council in the creek, and would ruin the creek for punting purposes. The chairman suggested approaching the Thames and Ohinemuri county councils/ as their territory was concerned. \ The council instructed Cr. Hayward to oppose the ’application to his utmost at the'next meeting of the South Auckland Land Board. Mr Walton was also to. appear before the Land Board. Cr. McLoughlin suggested asking the Timber Company to extend the council’s, tramline to the bank of the Waihou River. PATETONGA SECESSION. After discussing the matter in committee" a committee, comprising the chairman, Cr. Mayn, the clerk,' and the engineer, was empowered to meet the Piako County Council and the Patetonga settlers and report to the council* METAL SUPPLIES'. The Ohinemuri County Council wrote asking if the council could supply it with metal, from the Hikutoia •quarry during the summer months. •This was left to the engineer. ENGINEER’S RESIGNATION. Mir J. N.* Anderson, the council’s assiaant engineer, wrote resigning his position, as from- December 31, 1925, as he had been appointed assistant engineer to the Franklin County Council. Cr. Hayward moved tjhat the resignation be accepted with regret. Cr. Harris, in seconding, said that he was very that Mr Anderson was leaving; He had been a very conscientious officer, and had done his best, which Was a very good best. He trusted that the move was the commencement of a very successful career. The motion was carried. SALE OF SECTION. Mr E. L. Walton wrote asking the council to consider selling him an office site, comprising one-sixth of the council’s quarter acre section. Fpr the whole site the council had paid £lso', and for one-sixth he offered £5O. Granted. MAIN ROADS SCHEME. Or. Madgwick asked when the main roads sceme was to be explained to the ratepayers. Cr. McLoughlin urged holding meetings as soon as pbspible. The council decided to proceed vigorously with the scheme and authorised the chairman and clerk to address the settlers on dates, to be arranged. KAIHERE OUTLET Cr. McLoughlin moved that the clerk write to the Minister for Lands qsking what outlet he intended to provide for the Patetonga and Kaihere districts during the coming winter.— Carried. The clerk was also instructed to ask the lands drainage engineer to have the Toren ape-Pouar.ua road disced.
