NEW KINEMA THEATRE.
TENDERS FOR ERECTION INVITED. Tenders, returnable up to December 1, are invited for the erection in reinforced concrete'of a kinema theatre, with shops and offices, in Normanby Road directly opposite the office building. The structure will have a good bold appearance, and everything that is modern in the way of architecture, with a suspended steel verandah running the full frontage of 175 ft. On the ground floor proivsion is made for four ghops, 14ft by 44ft, and upstaira there will' be fourteen offices. The seating accommodation of the theatre will be approximately 900, and the floor will be slanting. A tiled entrance 20ft wide to the theatre is. proposed. The structure has been designed by Mr G. L. Burmester, A.N.Z.1.A., registered architect, Te Aroha, who iiais .during .the last two years been architect for a number of large buildings in Te Aroha, chief amongst which are Arthur’s Buildings, Jackson’s Buildings, the Te Aroha Borough abattoirs, and a great deal of domestic architecture. He is also architect to the Te Aroha Jockey Club. Mr Burmester, who has decided to have an office in Paeroa, comes here with references of merit and a backing of some fourteen years’ experience. He served his articles with Messrs James and Higgins, architects, of Wanganui and Marton, and finished his degrees with Mr T. S. Lambert, architect, of Wellington. He had experience during the war with both English and Continental architecture, and qualified as an associate of the New Zealand Institute of Architects in 1920.
