HIGH RETURNS.
WORKING WITH NO iHANURE
However much swamp lands may be despised on account of their effect upon the health of the stock, figures have been given to prove that the productivity of certain swamp lauds is far greater than in any other class of soil. Oij some of .the best land on the Hauraki Plains, for instance, great results have been otbained without the use of raaniuies, and it will no doubt some day be a cow-to-the-acre country. .
The case of a Ngatoa farmer, Mr W. Schultz, was quoted by a Morrinsville settler the other day (states the Morrinsville “Star’).’ He stated that this, holding Was of 108 acres, and for a recent Reason the butter-fat production was 19,9001 b from 70 cows, no manure whatever being used. This gave a herd average of 284i1b per caw, which would be considered fairly good in these pa-rto. Taking the production* on an acreage basis, however, it it safe to say that .there are no farms of the same size in the Morrinsville district that could equal it, the average per acre being 1841 b of butterfat. This season .this Ngatea farmer is milking 80 cows as well as grazing other stock.
