BOWLING.
GOLD FIELDS ASSOCIATION; ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Goldfields Bowling Association was held at Te Aroha on Saturday, Mr W. J. Towers (Paeroa) occupying the chair. The delegates present were: Messrs E. G. Moncrief and A. G. Yardley (Morrinsville), J. Heathcote and A. J. Burrows (Te Aroha), W. Smith and A. Corder (Thames), W. Power .(Paeroa), W. C. Coote and G. Stewart (Matamata), and the secretary, Mr P. Bygrave. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report submitted by the secretary was as follows : — “Your association admitted one new club (Hikutaia) into the association with full privileges. “The season in general was a successful one, due to the manner in which the clubs visited each other in quest of the Stars; also the way they visited for inter-club matches. “The Clothier Shield and Stars compteition was Won by Paeroa club. During the season the Stars were challenged for by all. the clubs in the association and changed hands on three occasions, finally being held by Morrinsville club. “The Champion of Champions, was won by W. Purdie (Paeroa). “The play in general has been of high standard. Teams of the association clubs have won the Te Aroha and South Aucklad tournaments, besides having great percentages of wins in various other tournaments. “With the standard of play mentioned, the association would do well to apply to the Dominion council for a visit from the British bowlers now on tour.”
' BALANCE-SHEET. The balance-sheet* showed a credit balance of £3 17s lOd, the receipts being £25 8s 3d, and/expenses £2l 10s 4d. It was explained that there were two clubs whose subscriptions were outstanding for one year. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. - The question of the donation of buttons to Stars holders was discussed, and deferred. A motion by the Morrintsville delegates to charge a challenge fee of 2s per playOr was defeated. . OFFICERS. The following officers were elected : President, Mr J. Clothier ; vice-presi-dent, Mr W. J. Towers ; members of executive, Mr F. Bliss. BRITISH BOWLERS. ‘Mr Towers, a member of the South Auckland Association, stated that the whole question of .the British bowlers’ visit was being considered by the South Auckland Association. Members thought that several rinks could be made available for. a visit to the Goldfields centre. The general trend of the discussion was that the Goldfields clubs would not be sufficiently recognised by the South Auckland Association,«being based On past treatment. Mr Towers explained that the old order had changed,'and he was quite satisfied that) the treatment would be fair. He could assure it.—-Morrin.'’.-ville Star. 1
