PAEROA RUGBY UNION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The final meeting for this season of the committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union was held in Bain’s Rooms on Monday eevning, the chairman (Mr W. Pennell) presiding over the following : Messrs C. H. Potter, W. Morrison, T. Welch, D. A. Vincent, B. Neil, R. Hodson, and the secretary, Mr J. M. Crosby. CONDOLENCE. Prior to the commencement of the business a vote Of condolence-was accorded Mr W. J. Moore, a life member of the union, in the loss of hi# wife. The motion was carried in silence, the members standing. The action of the chairman and secretary in forwarding a. wreath was endorsed. PLAYING FIELDS. The Domain Board wrote advising that two playing fields would be available next season and stating that the rental had been fixed at £l2 10S for. the two fields, providing the entrance fee to the grounds was liked at Is. If there was any increase in the charge for admission the board wa# to receive an additional, ten per cent, of the gate money. The secretary was instructed to reply .thanking .the board for the use of- the grounds and accepting the terms. INTER-UNION MATCHES. The. Thames Rugby Union wrote asking that consideration be given to early matches for next season and suggesting that Paeroa should enter, challenges for the Peace and Birch cups to be plaeyd during 1926. It was resolved' to enter challenges for the two cups. The secretary was also instructed to apply for a match with a Thames senior team to be played at Paeioa early next season. AMATEUR ENTERTAINMENT. The Thames Union wrote, advising that it had received an offer from a Thames, company of amateurs .to stage a play at Paeroa for the mutual benefit of the two unions ; the expenses of the .amateurs to be paid, and the balance of the proceeds to be divided equally between the Thames and.Paeroa unions. After a brief discussion the chairman and secretary were deputed to procure further particulars. ANNUAL MEETING. It was resolved .that the annual general, meeting Of the union would be held during the last week in March, 1926. REVISION OF BY-LAWS. A sub-committee, comprising Messrs Neil, Hodson, Welch, and the secretary, was appointed to revise the bylaws for the approval of the executive and for submission to .the annual meeting. CARE OF GEAR.
The offer of Mr Hodson to take charge of the representative jerseys, balls, ' and bell, was accepted with thanks. The secretary wap instructed to arrange for an insurance policy against fire on the two shields, twq cups, banner, and badges. RACECOURSE' GROUNDS. Messrs Hodson and Neil were appointed to arrange for the removal of the goalposts and fence, and to leave the Racecourse ground in good order and to the satisfaction of the jOhinemUri Jockey Club. • DONATION RECEIVED. Mr E. Edwards. . one of „the vicepresidents, forwraded a cheque to, £1 Is, together with a letter congratulating the committee on its, success and management during the season. STATISTICS REQUIRED. The secretary of the Thames Valley Rugby Union wrote asking to be furnished with a return showing the list of clubs in the union, numbei of pla}ers in each club, and a list of school teams and number of players. The information was required to forward to the Government Statistician. The secretary \vas authorised to forward the information, ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £2l Is 6d were parsed for payment. ' . SERVICES RECOGNISED. The sum of £2 2s was voted ,to Mr B. Sheriff in recognition of the services rendered by him as gatekeepei during the season. On the motion of. Mr Hodson, seconded by Mr Neil, it was resolved that the secretary be, paid the sum of £3 3s in recognition of his valuable .services and untiring energy in furthering .the interests of Rugby in the district during the season. Several members for their tangible acknowWork done by the secretary.
Mr Crosby responded, thanking the members for thier tangible acknowledgment of his efforts and congratulating the chairman and members on their capable manageemnt of .affairs and the impartial way. in which matters had been dealt with during the season. The chairman, in moving hearty votes of thanks ,to the Paeroa Referees’ Association and members of the' union for their suppbrt and ready assistance at all times, isaid that although the union had been handicapped in several ways he thought it was a matter for congratulation that it had come out so well. Ln his opinion the season had been, a very successful one. He made eulogistic reference to the work of the secretary, and concluded by expressing .the hope that the past season was only the forerunner of many years of success and advancement in Rugby affairs. Several members congratulated the chairman on his able maniagement during his term of office. A special vote of thanks, was accorded Mr W. Bain for the use of his rooms free of charge as a meeting place for the union during the season.
