PAEROA CLUB’S EFFORT.
PROFIT AND. PLEASURE RESULT.
The first .annual dance and euchre tournament organised by the Paeroa Lawn Tennis Club Was held, in the Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa, on Wednesday evening. The function was an unqualified .success, both socially and. financially, and .the promoters are to be congratulated on the success' tiiat attended their efforts, as the club’s funds will benefit to the extent of about £2O.
The theatre was tastefully decorated, lycopodium, bamboo, and other greenery being used. The hall was well filled, and to the music of the Symphony Orchestra the evening went with a swing to the finish. Messrs R. B. Penlington and J. M. Crosby were particularly mindful of their duties as M’s.C.
A different scene presented itself next door, at the Soldiers’ Club, where the euchre tournament was in full swing under the direction of Miss M. Shaw. Nearly! a‘]l the tables were occupied, and competition was very keen for the handspme prizes donated by of the club. During the supper adjournment the patron,of the club (Mr W. Marshall) congratulated the members on the success of the evening, and expressed the hope that the club would continue to grow in membership and strengthen its finances. He then presented the euchre prizes as follows : Ladies, First, Mrs Martin ; second,’Mrs R. L. Miller ; third, Miss Duff. Men, Flint, H. Goonan ; second, J. Treahor ; third, Clarke.
A special word of praise is due tothe ladies, who provided the delicious supper and were responsible for its distribution.
