KEREPEEHI ROADING.

TOWNSHIP STREET SCHEME.

LIBERAL ASSISTANCE PROMISED

Liberal asistance towards the Kerepeehi reading scheme has been promised'by the Hon. Minister for Lands. Under date September 30, Mr H. Pole and. M.P., Ohinemuri, has received a letter from the Minister stating that in reply to the deputations of Kerepeehi residents introduced to him in Kerepeehi, and to his (Mr Poland’s) fetters on the subject, the Public Works Department h,ad been requested to provide a £ for £ subsidy of £1375 on the Public Works Estimates for the metalling of the roads in the township of Kerepeehi. It was estimated that the total cost of the work would be £2750. Further consideration had been given to the matter and the Minister now approved of the Lands Department subsidising the work to the extent of a further £7 for each chain of frontage held by the Crown. The Lands Department held a number of sections in the towniship, and it was considered equitable tnat these should be taken into consideration. The total subsidy which will be paid l by the Lands Department on the basis of £7 for each chain of frontage of Crown land would amount to £555, and thus the settlers would only have to find £B2O to complete the metalling. The Minister concludes his letter by stating that these arrangements are contingent on provision being made in the Public Works estimates for £1375, and Parliament’s approval of the estimates.

A footnote on .the copy of the letter sent by Mr Poland to the- Secretary, Kerepeehi Ratepayers’ Association, states that the £1375 was on the Estimates.

The granting of this assistance by the Government should dp much to induce ratepayers .to vote for the riding reading scheme at the poll on Friday, October 23, 1925.
