DOMAIN BOARD.
THURSDAY’S MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Domain Board was held after the Borough Council meeting. INSURANCE. On the motion of Mr Marshall it was decided that the insurance on the bowling pavilion be renewed, that insurance on the tennis court be increased from £175 to £225, and that the policy on the band rotunda be allowed to lapse, TENNIS COURTS. The application from the Methodist Tennis Club for the use of the court next the croquet lawn was granted on the same terms as last year., ■ Considerable discussion arose over numerous players using the court without payment of the small fee ■stipulated by the by-laws. Several members suggested a prosecution. The matter was left to the committee for action. It was decided to issue season tickets, as in former years. CROQUET LAWN. The application of the Croquet
Club for the use of the lawn was granted. PLAYING AREA. On Cr. Silcock’s mbtion it was decided to call tenders for the grazing of the lower-portion of the domain, and that it be a recommendation to the committee .that the area be chain harrowed and rolled. CHARGE FOR FOOTBALL. The Mayor introduced the matter of the charge to be made for the use of the playing field by the Rugby Union. The union desired to know the copt. Members suggested a percentage of the gate receipts, so that the board would get something from the Thames Valley Union. The question was to fix a charge that would repay the board but not prove a hardship to the union or a reason why the Thames Valley Union should not play matches in Paeroa. Mr de Castro expressed the opinion that all the charges should be levied so as- to make the domain a paying proposition, allowing 50 per cent, to be paid by .the ratepayers. Mr Brenan suggested a charge for football Of 10 per cent, of the gate receipts. The area required little maintenance, aiid from it the board derived its grazing fees.
Mr Flatt suggested a fixed charge of, say, £l2 10s a year. Mr Silcock pointed out that under an amendment to the Public Domains Act the charge for admission could be made 2s. He suggested a charge of £2O, as the ground was in much better order than ever before. Mr Pinder sugported the lower sum, so that the spotrs bodies could build up a reserve and have a stand erected. Mr Flatt advocated a low charge for one year, so that outside bodies would be encouraged. Mr Flatt’s motion, which was seconded by Mr Hare, was carried, the conditions being a charge of £l2 10s provided admission was not more than Is. In the event of 2s being charged the board would get 10 per cent, of the additional Is in terms of the Act.
