OHINEMURI COUNTY.

WORKS OF THE MONTH. ENGINEER’S REPORT. At Thursday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council the following report by the engineer (Mr E. Shaw) for the month ended September 30 w.as submitted and approved : "Authority has been received from the Main Highways Board for raising formation at Waitoki, and from the Public Works Department for metalling portion of Trig Road, Waihi, and for which tenders are called and close at 2 p.m. this day. Proposals have been sent forward for forming, culvefting, and metalling portion of the Wiatawheta-Waihi road. The. authority has come to hand for metalling portios of Ford Road, Waihi, under subsidy £loo', £ for £. Tenders will be called for this work at the next meeting. The settlers; interested have paid iii a donation of £45 towards this work, leaving the Waihi riding to find £55.

“Metal repairs have been carried out on Wait.awheta Road and Komata North Road. The class of metal required for repairs to ,the lower end of the latter road was unobtainable, but I hope to be in a position to get same this month, provided the road is in a fit state to cart over. Metal repairs were also made on Rotokohu Road. Mr D. Sheehan, one of the settlers at Rotokohu, gave his time and a team of horses for several days, carting metal on to this road' free of cost to the council, and through his action a lot of extra repair work was done.

It was decided to write to Mr Sheehan conveying the council’s appreciation of his valuable services. “Repairs with metal were also effect to the main highways, PokenoWaihi, and Hamilton-Paeroa Toads, principally the latter. “The road roller has completed .at Mangaiti and will come forward to Tirbhia,. but will be used to grade up the sand portion of the road on its way. ■

“In company with the chairman I visited Messrs Muir and Roberts, Waihi, in regard to Pukewera Road, .and a solution of .the difficulty was found. We also looked into the complaint by Mr Rea, but found nothing can be done until the roads dry up."
