BASKETBALL.
CLOSE OF COMPETITION. SHIELD WON BY KIWIS. On Saturday last the Basketball Competition was brought to a close for this season, when the remaining two rounds were played. The Weather conditions were far from perfect, but the players thoroughly enjoyed the games played between the showers. The. games resulted as follows: — Areta 12, v. Rangi 8; Aroha 8, v. Tui 12; Kiwi 12, v. Moana 8 ; Areta 7, v. Tui 2; Rangi 4, v). Kiwi 6; Moana 7, v. Aroha 5. The positions o fthe teams for the season’s play as are follows:
The shield, presented by the Paeroa School Committee, was won by the Kiwis, captained by Miss E. Freeman, the runners-up being the Areta team, captained by Miss C. Hamilton. A meeting of the players, 60 in number, was held during the afternoon, when it was decided toehold a social in the near future, as a suitable ending for the season. A committee of eleven was, elected to make the necessary arrangements.
