KEREPEEBT. CONCERT. : A very enjoyable concert, organised by the Rev. Charteris, to raisje funds for the local, branch of the Plunket Society, was staged before a very large and appreciative audience, in the Kerepeehi Hall on Tuesday evening. Opening by a musical item by a Kerepeehi orchestra, there followed songs by Miss McCullay (Paeroa), Messrs. A, H. Sutton, A. Walker (Turua), and R, Foster (Paeroa), a duet by Mrs/. McLean and Mns. Williams (Turua), a recitation by Miss De Cas< tro (Paeroa), step dances by Misses Baa-ribal, Charteris, and N. Charteris,, bag-pipe selections by the Rev. Charter!* and Mr N. Charteris, songs and poi dances by a party of Maoris, and instrumental items by a Paeroa Quartette
NGATEA. NGATEA TENNIS. Tenders are now being, received for tlie laying down of .three concrete tennis courts for .the use of the Ngatea Tennis Club. The concrete will not be covered with tar, as is usual, but a colouring matter will be mixed with the cement to obviate a glare from the smooth surface. The erection of ,a pavilion and fences is included in the contract. WAHAKARUBU. CRICKET. . The first annual meeting of the Waitakaruru Cricket Club was held on Monday evening, Mr J. Donaghy presiding. Officers elected for the years were: President, Mr J. Donaghy; secretary, Mr H. L. Berney; delegates to the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association, Messrs Donaghy and Berney • committee, Messrs N. Death, Donaghy, Berney, C. Clark, G. Li. Griffiths, C. Stretton, L. Bates; selectors, Messrs Donaghy and Berney. About 30 members have been enrolled. Steps are being taken to get a concrete pitch on the Domain in time for the coming season. HOPAI. TENNIS. The annual meeting of the Hopai Tennis Club was held recently, officers being elected as follows: President, Mr S. Coppins, senr. (re-lected); vicepresidents, Messrs J.. Motion (reelected) and C. Foster ; secretary, Mr S. Coppins, junr.; general committee, officers .as above, and Messrs. E. Coppins, G. Birkenhead, A. E. Wade, and
the lady members ; match committee, Messrs. Murphy, A R. Vowles, and S. Coppins, junr.; delegate to Hauraki Plaine Tennis Association, Mr A. R. Vowles.
The secretary reported that the finances of the club were in a sound position. Notwithstanding the fact a pavilion had been erected and other improvements carried out during the year, a credit balance would remain when all accounts were squared up. The annual report mentioned that members of the club had done fairly well in the association’s competitions. In the competition for A grade teams the club’s team occupied the position as runners up, being only defeated once. The club also furnished the winners of the ladies’ championship singles, ladies' handicap singles, men’s handicap singles, and runners up in the men’s handicap doubles. A few minor improvements were decided upon, and . the opening date fixed for November 14.
