RESULT OF SATURDAY’S GAME. PAEROA DRAWS WITH WAIHI. Considerable interest was taken in the hockey match played .at the racecourse, Paeroa, on Saturday afternoon between the local Ladies Hockey and the Waihi Ladies’ senior eleven. Considering that the local te,am was playing against an eleven with thiee year’s experience, the exhibition put up wats, perhaps, the best seen locally this year. As a whole the local ■ players have yet much to learn. The ; art of keeping one’s position on the .field is completely overlooked by some of the players. As a result there is little or no combination, and suppoi t wjign required is invariably, lacking. Individually, Paeroa possesses some players who would be an acquisition toi any team. Saturday’s game, which resulted in both sides scoring a goal each, wasfarlly fast, but was mainly a halfline game. The wet and muddy state of the playing field prevented some of the finer, arts of the game being brought off, but the visitors showed the local players many points, especially in close formation play. The following were the teams : — Paeroa.—Misses F. Leach, M, Tierney, P. Treanor, L. McKee, V. Shand, F. Shaw, N. Fitch, B. Bunting, L. Payne, A. Morland, and! G. Swann. . Waihi.—Misses H. Nisbett, H. Silbey, Z. Worth. G- Delaney, M. Hoye, M. Fagan, T. Mair. I. Dabinett, D. Weedon, M. Carter, M. Landy. From the bully-off Waihi attacked and carried into the circle, but Misses Shand and Morland cleared for Miss Bunting to return to midfield. Shortly afterwards Miss Payne got in a long hit and Miss -Bunting carried into the circle, but her shot went wide. Following the bully-off Miss Morland car--1 ried up-field again, but Miss Swann mulled the hit and an open chance to score was lost. A corner hit in Paero.a’s circle was'well cleared by Miss Shand, who carried play into .the visitors’ circle on- her own but was unisupported and Miss Nisbett - cleared to the side line. ' Paeroa kept up the pressure, and after a loose scramble Miss Morland' carried into the circle only to fail with a badly judged shot. The local team frequently committed penalties, giving the visitors a number of openings which they appeared to be reluctant to take. After half-time Miss Dabinett started an attack, and in a fine concerted movement play was carried, into the circle, where Miss Landy shot a. good goal. Almost immediately after t,he bully-off Miss Morland gained possession 'and centred well to .Miss Shand, who was playing forward, enabling her' to get through the visiting backs practically unsupported and register ,a good goal for Paeroa. Both teams played hard for an additional, score, but the game ended in a draw. Mr Ireland was referee, Next Saturday the Paeroa team will, play’a return match against Wait.akaritru, at Waitakaruru. Cars will leave Brocket and Shand’s at 1 p.m. The’ following players have been selected : Goal-keeper, Miss F. Leach ; full-backs, Misses M. Tierney and P. Treanor ; halves; Misses L. McKee, V. Shand, F. Shaw; forwards, Misses N. Morland, B. Bunting, L. Payne, A. Morland, 0. Swann. Emergencies : N. Fitch and E. Carthy.
