WORKS IN THE BOROUGH
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS. COMMITTEE’S REPORT. The following report was submitted by the Works Committee at yesterday’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council:— “Since the last meeting ol the Council the railway station has been moved to its new site in Moore Road and Coronation Street. These altera 1 - tions have made necessary a certain amount of co-operating work by the Council, as the approach roadjs, etc., Were not . really ready for the traffic. However, as far as the Council is concerned, the arrangements made will for the-present, be sufficient; but the first opportunity must be taken to metal the top of Hill Street, and reconstruct the lower portion of the same street. “It is impossible to finish the portion of Moore Road which the Council had to construct as it contains a good deal of filling which it is impossible to roll. “The 2in water pipes are to hand, and the 4in and fittings would also have been but for being held up on the Ruahine in Wellington owing to the strike. “After a fortnight’s delay the Morningside Quarry turned down the order for chips for the domain footpaths. Arrangements have now been made for a supply of suitable beach shingle, which is due any day. “Your committee found that the upper Normanby Road footpath job was larger than it was estimated to be, and that the cost would be about £5O to make a proper job. As the path is much used, and the committee wishes to do properly whatever work is carried out, the work is being proceeded with, and we ask for the approval of the same.”
