A. & P. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF HAURAKI BODY. A SATISFACTORY YEAR. The twenty-seventh annual general meeting of The Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Soldiers’ Club, Paeroa ,on Saturday evening, the president (Mr W. J. Hall) presiding over an attendance of fifteen members. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated, inter alia: — “The financial position as disclosed by the balance-sheet shows that a small credit balance resulted from the year’s operations, and the payment of a fair number of outstanding subscriptions has reduced the overdraft slightly. This position can be considered quite satisfactory, as the majority of kindred societies lost con s'derable money on shows-last year. Wayp and means will need to be considered by the incoming executive to collect the outstanding subscriptions . of members. “One or two of the competitions, especially the amateur judging and the babv show, resulted in losses ; in fact, the amateur judging competi- • tion has always been a losing proposition. The cattle competitions were all keenly contested, as usual, being the most. strongly represented treed, while there was an increase in the number of Friesian entries. The - Captain 'Hubbard Memorial Cup was won by a group of Friesians exhibited by the Matangi Friesian Farm Co. “Sheep entries, which are usually small, greatly increased last year, and with the increased number of pedigree sheep coming into the district should prove keen competition in the future. The show-ring events were well, up to previous standards in most sections, but there was a fall- ’ ing offi in the entries-for heavy h'orges. “Your committee wishes to place on record its appreciation and thanks to the members who worked so well last year, especially the chief stewards,. Messrs Stembridge and Fathers, and their assistants.' We also wish to thank the president and committee of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club for their liberal donation,., and also for the free use of hurdles and seats ; the domain superintendent (Mr W. Hamilton) for his valuable and willing assistance ; Mr W. F. Johnstone for green feed supplied ; Messrs Le Manquais- Lamb, for timber ; Brenan and Co. for benzine boxes; and the many businessmen who donated trophies and cash towards the prize fund. The committee also wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to the Hauraki Plains ‘Gazette' for so fully reporting the show and . various meetings. - . ■ “In conclusion the committee, asks the earnest help of - members during 4he coining year, as many hands make light work, and with co-operatoin another successful year can be anticipated.” AUDITOR’S REPORT. The report of the auditor, Mr G. E. Allen; which accompanied the bal-ance-sheet, stated "The net gain to the accumulated funds as at June 30, 1925, is £2 5s lid. made up by. the profit on year’s working, £52 5s lid, less bad debts written off, £5O. “I should like to-draw your • atten- ' tion to an item appearing under sundry debtors, ground rent, etc., £42 3s 4d. Twenty pounds of that sum is a debt owing by Mrs Jonas since 1923. If this is not collectable it should be written off. The item of £ll7, being members’ subscriptions in arrears .after writing off £5O, should be collected and thus reduce the overdraft and interest. Apart from the items mentioned the sundry debtors are small, and compare favourably with last year's figures, and should all be collectable.” , In reply to Mr Vuglar Mr Edwards said that of the £ll7 of outstanding subscriptions a reasonable proportion was collectable, and already several members had paid since the compilation of the balance-sheet. In answer to Mr P. R. Hubbard the president said that the fact that subscriptions had been written off did not absolve the members from liability. Replying to Mr- Porritt the president explained that of the £5B representing sundry creditors £56 5s was owing to the secretary as- salary. The balance-shet and report were adopted. AMATEUR JUDGING. The question of continuing the amateur judging competition was discussed. Mr E. W. Porritt said that the show should be educational as .well as competitive, and he did not think it should be- deleted. 'Mr Buchanan favoured cutting out the competition if. it had to be run at a loss. Tlie matter was left to the discretion of the schedule, committee. NUMBER OF SHOW DAYS. Mr Vuglar suggested that thip year the association should hold a oneday show. : Several members spoke against the suggestion, and a resolution was carried deciding to adhere to a two-days show. It. was also resolved that ring events on the first day would not commence before 1 p.m. - SHOW DATES. It was decided that the show be held on December 10 and 11 next. HERD-TESTING. Mr Buchanan moved that this association recommends that all farmers should go in for systematic herdtesting and the use of pedigree bulls to increase butter-fat production. Seconded by Mr Vuglar and carried. THE ROYAL SOCIETY. The Royal Agricultural Society of N.Z. wrote asking the association to affiliate with the society, and stating that the annual subscription was ■ equal to one per cent, of the members’ subscription of the association. It was decided that it was regretted that the funds did not permit of affiliating this year. SHOW SMOKER. It wa's decided that the annual smoker be held on the evening of the

first day of the show. RESIGNATIONS. The resignations, of Messrs. W. J. Byrne, J. Buchanan, and R. Alexander, were received with regret. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
