“Aussie’s spring number has just reached us, and Is full of the cheerfulness and freshness of spring. Tne host of humorous writers and artists at the call of “Aussie’’ furnish their best for this number, which is full bf irresistible laughter from cover to cover. It is hard to individualise in an altogether excellent iqsue, but one contribution seems to stand out as a pure gem of laughter, and this is a story by that clever humorous writer, H. E. Riemann. New Zealand writers and artists figure well in this great issue, and of course have their own particular N.Z. section, comprising the usual sixteen pages bf clever letterpress and drawings.

. This week’s issue of the “N.Z. Sporting and Dramatic Review” is of an incomparably high standard. The double centre pages comprise Staines Regatta, Peterborough Foxhound Show, and notable scenes and functions in England. Football enthusiasts will, be keenly interested in the striking series of photographs depicting the Auckland and Hawke’s Bay Rugby contest at Eden Park, and the Queerisland-New Zealand League Test at Carlaw Park. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting is represented in a comprehensive set of snapshots showing starts and finishes of leading events. Exceptional attention will be given to the fine pages traversing the new route of the Main Trunk railway service giving views of progress at Campbell’s: Point and Tamaki. Performers in “The Goddess of Punjab,” for the Plunket Society, form an attractive page, while a special feminine appeal is afforded in the striking page of fashions at Auteuil.

Smokers who are nggardly of their ’baccy are i are. As a rule their pouch is at the service,of almost anybody. Of course there are exceptions. Do you remember the story of the smoker who kept two pouches ? One he called “the world," the other “providence.” The first was always empty ; the second always well filled. If aisked for a fill he would regret that lie “hadn’t a bit in the world.” If questioned as to what he was going to do for himself he would say, "oh, I must trust in Providence.” Well, there are all kinds of smokers, just as there are all kinds of tobacco. By the way, have you tried our own N.Z. grown tobaccos ? In some respects they are unique. For one thing, they are all toasted, hence their peculiarly delightful flavour; secondly, they contain iso little nicotine that they may be smoked "till the cows come home” without proving injurious. That’s why the doctors approve of them. Try Riverhead Gold, mild; Navy Cut (Bulldog), medium ; or Cut Plug No. 10 (Bull’s Head), full.*
