ACCLIMATISATION.
OHINEMURI SOCIETY. / A meeting of the committee of .the Ohinemuri Acclimatisation Society was held on Saturday last. The secretary, Mr.D. Leach, reported that 50,000 trout fry would be arriving shortly, and the committee allotted these as follows : Waitawheta, 30,000; Komata, 10,000; Hikutaia, 10,000. MINING ACTIVITY. The president, Mr J. Hamilton, stated that on account of mining activity at Maratoto there was every possibility that the Hikutaia: stream would again be used for sluicing tailings, in which case the trout would all be destroyed. He was hopeful that the farming community would take up the matter, of urging Government action to prevent tailings being deposited in' the river. The society would give its support. SEPARATE SOCIETY.
Mr Leach stated that he had been in touch with the other sub-societies, and it had been decided to call a meeting of those interested, to be held at Hamilton on the 16th inst., when the • question of forming a separate acclimatisation society would be discussed. Messrs F. Dane and P. Angle spoke in favour of the proposal.
Messrs C. Stembridge, G. Buchanan, and A. H. Robinson were unable to attend the meeting but forwarded their views in favour of the proposal. On the motion of the president, seconded by Mr Angle, it was resolved that Mr D. Leach be appointed delegate to attend the meeting, with instructions to support the formation of a Waikato Acclimatisation Society.
