EFFECT OF GOOD ROADS

GENERAL RATE REDUCTION. PLAINS COUNCIL’S ACTION. Portion of the Kopuarahi riding of the Hauraki Plains County between the Orongo ferry and Turua is to have its roads bitumen-sealed during the next few months, just as the Tu-_ fua riding roads have been done. In striking the rates for the t\\p ridings recently the council realised the injustice of levying the same rate over the portion where the roads required no maintenance as over the portion with the bad roads, and the conclusion was come to that — be advisable to alter the riding boun- x d.aries so that all the bitumen roaded - area, would be in one riding and re* ceive the- benefit of the lower maintenance rate. The county clerk stated in reply to a question that .the Counties Act provided that a special meeting ,of the council should be held during the month of September to consider any alteration of riding boundaries. Crs. Miller and Madgwick, the riding representatives concerned, being agreeable to the change, the council decided to hold the special meeting for the purpose.
