HOCKEY.

SATURDAY’S GAME. WAITAKARURU DEFEATS PAEROA. On Saturday afternoon the Waitakaruru ladies’ hockey team visited Paeroa and played the local ladies’ team on the No. 2 ground at the Racecourse. The game was fast and open, and one of the best exhibitions of hockey seen here this season. The Waitakaruru' team defeated the home eleven by the narrow margin bf one goal to nil. Considering that there were several changes in the personnel Of the local team, and the fact that it was one player short until nearly half-time, the defeat by the more experienced team is hardly to De wondered at.

The experience gained by the local playens in the inter-club matches is beginning to manifest itself, and the game played on Saturday was easily the soundest and best exhibition the team has given. Mr C. Ireland was referee.
