HUIRAU ROAD FACTORY.
MEETING OF SUPPLIERS. The annual meeting of suppliers to the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Company’is Huirau Road cheese factory was held in the Turua Buildings on Wednesday evening, Mr A, Sutton, convener of the suppliers’ committee, presiding over a good ,attendance. Mr C. J. Parlane and Mr W. C. Dixon, of the company’s staff, and Ml - W. E. Hale, local director, were present. Mr Parlane addressed the suppliers on the lines of his address at Shelly Beach, as already reported, and Mr Dixon explained details of the profit and los,s account of the factory and compared the figures with chose of the previous season.
The average test far the season was 3.889, compared with 3.78 for the previous season ard 3.823 for the whole of the company’s factories thisseason.
Details of the working coste given by Mr Dixon showed that the factory had been economically managed. The cost of manufacture -and delivery into the freezer was £l3 18s 7d per ton, or £l5 10s 2d when all charges were taken into consideration. This was a decrease on the previous season’s costs of £2 5s 3%d per ton, and'was a matter for congratulation. Wages per ton of cheese manufactured this season showed an increase of from £3 l'ss- 7d to £4 0s 9d.
The operations of the coal-mine had been largely responsible for the decrease in the cost of fuel from £2 7s d 3 to £1 8s 5d per ton. Other manufacturing costs were normal. The pounds of milk used to make a. lb of cheese had been 9.80 1 , and the gross ratio was 2.678, compared with 2.72 for the previous season. The net raio. was- 2.621.
The output for the. season’was 199 tons, as against 242 tons in the previous year.. The pay-out was £1 7.3 d and the average .advance payments 15.47 d.
Many questions on general topics in connection with the working of tne company were asked and answered, and it was nearly mid-night when the meeting closed. Votes of thanks were accorded - the out-going suppliers’ committee, the staff of the factory, and the staff of the Paeroa. factory. Mr Parlane was congratulated, on the motion of Mr Madgwick, on his promotion, and on (he motion of Mr Zeigler a vote of confidence in the directors and. management of the company was carried by acclamation. Messrs A. Sutton (convener), W. Madgwick, and J. Newman were reappointed on the suppliers’ committee and to their number was added Mr D. G. McMillan.
