SATURDAY’S GAMES.

BANNER COMPETITION ADVANCED The knock-out banner competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday afternoon. Despite the unpleasant weather conditions a fair number of spectators assembled at tne Racecourse to see the game between the East team and a fifteen representing Karangahake. These teams met previously, when a game lasting one hundred minutes was played and ended in both sides scoring an equal number of points. The tussle on Saturday was a keen, open go, and there is little doubt that the East team gave the better exhibition of Rugby. The game ended, East 10, Karangahake 6. For East tries were scored by D. Smifh and C. Treanor, and E. Moore drop-kicked a goal. For Karangahake one try .was scored by. T. Killgour and one by McLeod. . Mr J. D. Crawford was referee. The position hi the banner competition nows is that East and West will play off on Saturday, September 19. NETHERTON V. NGATEA. In the senior match between Ngatea and Netherton which was played oil tlie No. 1 ground a fast, clean game resulted in a win for Netherton by 5 points- to 3. .Mr R. B. Penlington was referee. SCHOOL MATCH. PAEROA V. WAIHI. Considerable interest was shown by the spectators hi the match between the Paeroa and Waihi High Schools on the No. 2 ground on Saturday. Although the visitors had the heavier team it was only in the last quarter that they managed to beat the local boys, the scores being Waihi 8, Paeroa 6. The game was fast and open, and both eidesi displayed a very good knowledge of Rugby. Soon after the commencement of the second quarter W. Sotuhby scored a try, but his kick failed. On resuming, after htilf-timc G. Gamble picked up in the loose and dived over, J. Conoily failing to convert. Following the kickout a Waihi boy scored a good try which was not converted, and in the last quarter the -visitors registered another try, which was converted. Mr E. Smith was referee. The local team 1 entertained tne visitors to lunch at the High School prior to the game.
