DRUIDISM.

MEETING AT PAEROA. GRAND SECRETARY’S VISIT. On Saturday evening last a specially summoned and largely attended meeting of the Star of Paeroa Lodge No. 18 was held hi the local lodge room. Tiie sepcial purpose of the gathering was to welcome Bro. J. N. Grant, Grand Secretary of the North Island Lodges. Representatives from the Dominion Lodge, Thames; Victoria Lodge, Waikino; and Waihi Lodge were present in goodly number, including the District President, Bro. Shaw, of Victoria Lodge, P.D.P.’s Bros. Lloyd, Lewis, and Johnston, and many past and present officers of No. 10 district. Promptly at S o'clock the Arch Druid of the tSar of Paeroa Lodge, Bro. E. V. Slylield, opened the lodge in due form. Atfci’wards a new member was initiated into the rites of Druidism, following which the Grand Secrteary addressed the Order on many matters af intense interest to the brethren. Many questions concerning tlie government by Grand Lodge, the requirements of the Friendly Societies Act, and the extent of the privileges enjoyed bymembers were asked, and were candidly and fully answered by Bro. Grant.

After the lodge wats formally closed the whole of the company met round the banqueting board and passed a social hour or two in music, song, and story. The loyal and Druidic toasts were duly proposed and honoured.

Complimentary reference must be made to the high tone of the speeches listened to during the evening, and to the fine spirit of fraternity shown by all. Bro, Clark ably presided at the piano, and harmony was contributed by- Bros. Rowe, Quinn, Ratcliffe. Maunders, Redfern, and SlyfielJ. The gathering will be remembered with pleasure tor many a day- to come.
