GAME AT KEHEPEEHI. WAIHI TEAM DEFEATED. The Kerepeehi team entertained Waihi visitors in the last game of the Goldfields Cup competition, and after a hard-fought game secured the verdict by three goals to two. Kerepeehi won the toss and had the advantage of a slight breeze, and in the first few minutes gave the Waihi backs a very busy time. Calton, on Waihi’s left, made several raids into Kerepeehi’s territory and pleased the spectators by his smart control of the ball. The first goal went to Kerepeehi after 20 minutes’ play, the ball travelling from Crisp to Craig and back to Shilton, who scored from close in, Roberts, the Waihi custodian, having no chance. Waihi strived hard to equalise and made several clever raids, but the Kerepeehi defence was tbo good. Carson and Crisp were applauded for clever play on Kerepeehi’s left wing. The ball travelled quickly from end to end, the home forwards trying several shots and Bushwell a long drive, but all wore a little wide er were successfully dealt with by Roberts, who is a smart keeper. The Waihi forwards seldom got as far as Callender, and half-time arrived with Kerepeehi leading by 1 goal to 0. On resuming Waihi set off with a buret and appeared to run all over Kerepeehi, and after smart play by Pascoe the ball was transferred to Leadbeater, who'scored from a bunch of players, making the score one all. The Kerepeehi forwards attacked on the right wing, but McKenzie returned with a long kick. Kerepeehi’s defence bunched, and .the Waihi forwards took advantage of this and from a melee in front of the home team’s goal Leadbeater secured and scored Waihi’s second goal. Benefiting by this reverse Kerepeehi played more open and better fptball and caused the visitors to extend themselves on defence. Carson, receiving a pass from Tilbury, made a nice run and was well supported by Crisp, b\ ’ nothing came of it. Pressure was still continued, and Shilton tried a long shot which hit the far upright. The ball rebounded, and although Roberts played the ball he could not contro it, and Craig, following up, scored Kerepeehi’s second goal. Both sides tried hard for the winning goal, and Calton kept Thompson and Garrett busy. Callender had more to do in this half, but the Waihi forwards could not score. Kerepeehi’s left wing then applied pressure, and one of the Waihi backs handled in the penalty area. Shilton w'as entrusted with the kick and gave Kerepeehi the lead again. Buswell tried a run through, btu was robbe wdhen close in. Waihi again raided Kerepeehi’s goal, but try as they would they could not score. The whistle sounded and left Kerepeehi the winners of a hard, clean game by 3 goals to 2. As usual, the voting players and spetcators were entertanied to tea in the local hall by the ladies’ committee, the fare being bountiful and heartily appreciated.
