NEW RAILWAY STATION
BUSINESS OCCUPATION TO-DAY. FIRST TRAIN DISPATCHED. A further page in the history of Paeroa was commenced this morning when the new railway station in Moore Road came into use and the first, truin Was dispatched by Mr W. J. Staunton promptly at 6.40 a.m. witli 33 passengers aboard. The local railway (.staff spent a busy time yesterday in moving goods and Chatties to the new buildings. The e-kl station buildings are now empty, and it is not known for. certain at present what is to be done with them other than that they are to be demolished almost immediately. The refreshment rooms were placed on greased rails and pushed on to a truck on Saturday night and removed bodily, via Taylor's. Avenue, to the new site on the station platform to the rear of the proposed Waihi loopline. The locomotive sheds are remaining where they are at present, as also are the store shed, but these, too, will be moved to their new positions shortly. Much more yet remains to be done at the new station and yards, and it will be some months before the work is completed. At present the platform is, only sanded, but as this consolidates the whole section will be asphalted. The electric interlocking and signal system has yet to be installed, and in the meantime the yard manual signals are being used and the south signal cabin is: being retained in operation. A carpentering gang is busy remodelling and roofing the goods-shed, which was removed in sections during last week, and this work should be completed within the next few days.
