KEREPEEHI V. WAIHI. A DRAWN GAME. On Saturday last the Kerepeehi ‘‘Soccer" team visited Waihi to play a further round in tiie Goldfields competition, and a good, clean game resulted in a draw of one goal each. Kerepeehi lost the toss and soon invaded Waihi’s territory, the ball going behind. From the goal kick Waihi attached and eventually opened the scoring, Sleeman putting the ball through after five minutes of play. On resuming Shilton set his left wing going, and Burt and Canson caused Waihi some anxiety, but Roberts eventually cleared. Millar, on Waihi’s left wing, gave Thompson and Buswell a lot of trouble, and in the first half put in some nice centres and Beagle was called up to clear his goal on several occasions. Pascoe, Waihi’s right, had some hard tussles with Tilbury, and Carson often had to drop back and give assistance in the first half, but later in the game Tilbury had his opponent’s measure. Hands, Kerepeehi’s right, made ground and forced several corners, and after 25 mintues’ play a centre from his wing was transferred by Craig to Burt, who headed for goal, and Shilton gave it the finishing touch with a header and made the scores even. Roberts, the Waihi fullback, had to retire for sonic time, having twisted his knee. Burt tried hard on Kerepeehi’s left wing, but was robbed near Waihi’e goal.
After half-time both sides tried hard for the lead. The forwards on both sides were too anxious and their shooting became a little wild. Millar for Waihi shot over the bar from six yards out, and Shilton on the other side shot wide when he might have scored. Both goalkeepers were kept busy and gave good exhibitions. Botn the Kerepeehi wings were kept going in the second half, and centred the ball better. A series of cornens against Waihi could not be improved upon. Waihi attacked again, and Sleeman gave Beagle a hot handful, which he cleared nicely. The ball travelled quickly from end to end, but neither side could score and time arrived with the scores one all. Mr Seath was referee. For Waihi Roberts played a good game in goal, and as he is only a youth he should develop into a good keeper. Robertson as centre-half played a great game and places the ball nicely. Millar on outside left played the ball nicely and gave some good centres. The team as a whole had good combination and played well. For Kerepeehi Beagle played a great game in goal, and the remainder of the team played really good football and gave Waihi the hardest game of the season. It is a pity this team had not got together earlier, as, they would have done a lot better in the competition,. Kerepeehi has enered for the Howden Cup, and meet the winner of the Waihi-Thames match on the Kerepeehi ground about September 12.
