HUIRAU ROAD FIRE.
PLAINS SETTLER’S LOSS. FIVE-ROOMED house destroyed Shortly after 11 o’clock on Saturday evening the five-roomed residence owned and occupied by Mr P. McCormick, Huirau Road was completely destroyed by fire. How the fire originated is not known, as the residents, as well as the neighbours, were absent at a surprise party. . The alarm was given by a motorcylist returning from the party, and he, with Mr Baker, successeded in saving the washhouse. It is understood that the State Fire Office holds a policy for £450 on the house and £lOO on the furniture.
