At Monday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union Mr J. W. T. Jones was unanimously elected, a lifemember of the‘union.
The. Methodists of Paerqa are holding a concert in the Gaiety Theatre on Thursday of next week, when a programme of part songs, duetts, solo's, and elocutionary items will be offered. Visitors from Te Arolia and Thames are assisting. The public are heartily invited.
Owing to the derailment of an engine on the line at Greatford the Main Trunk trains arrived at Frankton Junction over an hour late yesterday. As a consequence the Thames and Rotorua expresses were correspondingly delayed. The AucklandThames express’ on arrival at Paeroa yesterday afternoon was over an hour behind schedule time.
The N.Z. Dairy Company’s London manager cabled under date August 8 that Anchor butter was, bringing 1965, unsalted 200 s, the market being quietly firm. Danish 2075, with more activity expected next week. The retail is unchanged. The cheese market is fairly firm but quiet The price for white and coloured is 110 s, Canadian 109 s c.i.f. Retail unchanged.
Abraham Lincoln’s, quotation, “The government of the people by the people for the people,” was interpreted by a member of the Thames Valley Power Board at Tuesday’s meeting at Te Aroha, when speaking of the supply of current from Horahora, as “the government of the people by the people for the Public Works Department.”

Speaking at the meeting of the Thames Valley. Power Board at Te Arolia yesterday the chairman (Mr. F. H. Claxton) said that while in Wellington last week he was in conversation with the Consul-General for the United States, who stated that he had a request from America to make inquiries regarding the supply of electricity to the farming community in this Dominion.

At the meeting of the Paeroa RugbyUnion on Monday evening Mr J. W. T. Jones said that he favoured a w'eight condition as the means of determining the status of a junior footballer. He pointed put that drastic action would have to be taken if senior football was to hold its rightful place in the district, and the union could not continue to carry on as it had done in the past. The speaker urged that the securing of the services of a coach should be considered, and suggested that the expenses of the project could be shared by the unions in the district.
The following players have been selected to represent Paero* tnird-grade in a match against Piako as a cur-tain-raiser to the King Country v. Thames Valley match at Te Aroha on Saturday next: W. Leach, V. Harold, F. Barakat, F. Floyd, J., Conolly, ,H. Keaney, P. Poland, C. Nield, W. Wilton, W. Hargreaves, H. Spinks, J. Gunn, P. Williams, Robinson, I. Hall. Emergencies : Palmer, Gwilliam, and Flatt. Any players unable to make the journey are requested to inform Mr J. Crosby at the earliest possible moment. The team will assemble on the Paeroa railway station at 12 o'clock on Saturday, and those who have not black and white jerseys are advised to borrow them.

G. Morrison, £1 2s sd, costs 9s ; Fleming and Son v. J. F. Montague, £3 15s, costs* £1 3s 6d; Ohinemuri County Council v. Mrs A, J. O’Neil, debtor ordered to pay £1 a week in. reduction of the liability. Judgment summonses: C. Buckton was ordered to pay E. E. Neil £l2 9s 3d, costs 15s, forthwith, ini default 12 days’ imprisonment; P. Taupaki was ordered to pay T. Black £1 13s, and £1 in a fortnight’s time, in default three days’ imprisonment in Thames gaol; A. H. Alley was ordered to pay the estate of HagueSmith, Ltd., £l5 14s, in default 14 days’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended so long as debtor paid £5 forthwith and £5 a month ; W. Pearcey was ordered to pay W. E. Hookey £4 14s 6d, in default five days’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended so long as £2 was paid on September 10 and balance on October 16.
