POWER BOARD WORKS.
RECORDS OF THE MONTH.. STATEMENTS PRESENTED. At yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board the following statements were presented :— MANAGER’S REPORT. “Polets. —The Louis Theriault arrived at Kopu on July 6 with a cargo of poles from Newcastle, and. finished discharging on the 20th. The sizes of poles were 24, 30, and 36-feet lengths. There are now ample stocks to last for some months. "The following figures are the sales of electricity for the quarter ended June 30, 1925 :—
“Towns on meter: Lighting, heating, and power, £4429 13s 5d I bulk consumers, town, and industrial, £994 17s 6d; dairy factories, £675 17s 6d; street lighting, £223 16s Bd. 'Flat rate: Lighting, £1675 6 s sd; he.ating. £1395 9s 9d; power, £4708 16s 8d; water-heaters, £291 8s 5d ; ovens, £BB 17s 2d. Revenue other than electricity, £2171 18ts Id. Total, £16,655 13s. In the above figures no excess of butter-fat has been allowed for. “Power Board’s Conference. The chairman, engineer, and manager attended the Power Board’s Conference, held at Wellington on the sth inst., and tlic following remits submitted by the board were adopted : (1) That the Government provide an! investing authority for any special funds that may be set aside by power boards from time to time; (2) that the mini--mum non-consumers’ rate be 5s in lieu of 20is, and that the reduction be retrospective ; (3) that the Minister be requested to. make statutory provision empowering power boards at the expense of the owner to cut down trees likely to prove dangerous to their electrical lines and the supply of current, and also to cut back overhanging branches. “Carting.—lnstruction have ' been issued to all foremen in tne board’s; employ that the permission of the county engineer must be obtained before carting is started on -the unmetalled roads in their district, and the work to be arranged accordingly. “Consumers. —The total number of consumers ce-nnetced to the board’s mains! at July 31, .1925, was 5123, including the boroughs of To Aroha and Thames. There were 110 lighting and heating consumers, 4 ranges, 34 water-heaters, and 51 2-h.p. motors for .milking purposes connected on the flat rate during the month, together with three 2-h.p., three 3-h.p., and one ?5-h.p. motors, one electric range, and one water-heater ,on meter rates. In the 51 milking motors connected it will be gratifying to know that 33 were connected tp lines that have been erected and operating for some time. The- total number.' of motors connected and operating on farms its 1288, of which 1156 are 2-h.p. milking motors. It is anticipated that a large number of milking motors will be connected to the mains before the end of September. Inquiries from prosipectivc consumers are being received daily. “The house at Tirau has been completed by the builders, and. is occupied by the troubleman for that district.” ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer reported for the Paeroa . section as follows :— “Mahutu Road, Waitakaruru.—The wiring of low tension circuits’ and service mains has been coxiipleted, and a transformer installed. Supply to consumers was given on July 31. “Ngatea-Rawerawe 11.000-vplt line. —Pole erecting commenced on July -7, and is proceeding. All poles have been carted and cross-armed. “Ngatea-Kaihere (Smerle’s mill).— Construction work was commenced on July 29. Further poles have been landed for this section. “Deviation of Plains Line at Paeroa.—Owing to the construction of the new . railway bridge over the Ohinemuri River at Paeroa it was necessary to deviate our main 11,000-volt line at this point: The work was completed on Sunday, July 3. “Extensions. —Short extensions and alterations to the low tension reticulation have been made on Hubbard’s Road, Kopu, and in the Paeroa borough. Larger transformers have been installed at the Puke, Ngatea, and Waitakaruru.
. “The Public Works Department had a trial run with the electric dredge, at the Puke bridge on July 20, ■ and dredging operations proper were comon July 28.”
