ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Ngatea Public Hall Society was held last evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding over Messrs G, Phillips, C. McTaggart, S. Phillips, W. J. Clare, W. McDuff, T. Leonard, H. Dent, E. Walton, and J. N. Anderson (secretary). ANNUAL REPORT. In presenting the report and bal-ance-sheet for the year ended Marcn 31, 1925, the president said that it was gratifying to note that some solid progress had been made. The assets of the society showed an increase ot £2B over he previous year, with the securities valued on a fairly conservative basis. During the year £33 12s lid was- spent on new fittings and extra lighting. The bank overdraft limit had been reduced by £3O, and an undertaking had been given to reduce it by a sum of £3O or more on the first day of December in each year. The section adjoining the hall had bene leased with a compulsory purchasing clause, and the lessee had erected a motor garage and lock-up shops thereon. The arrangement entered into with Mr Hamilton assured a regular income for another twelve months, and indications pointed to a fairly prosperous year. THE BALANCE-SHEET. The balance-sheet showed that £32 19s- had been paid for interest and bank charges, £8 18s 2d for insurance, £2B for wages, £l6 18s 6d tor lighting and £42 Is lid for ne.w fittings. Receipts from pictures, miscellaneous entertainments, stall rent, and office rent, etc., totalled £l6l 12s 3d. The sum of £423 16s 5d was brought forward from the previous year, and £402 16s lid will be carried forward. The statement of assets and liabilities showed that the value of land, hall, and fittings, less depreciation, was £1039 3s Bd, while the liability wais a bank overdraft of £402 19s sd, leaving .a balance of assets over liabilities of £6lO 5s lOd. Mr E. Walton said that the committee was to be congratulated on its operations. The income was steady and the committee had spent the funds wisely. On the motion of the president, seconded by Mr McDuff, the reports were adopted. NEW MEMBERS. Messrs J. Terrill, C. S. Foster, C. McTaggart, W. J. Crabbe, T. Leonard, J. Costello, and F. E. Stimpsc-n .were made members of the society. * OFFICERS. Mr G. T. Davidson was reappointed president, Mr J. N. Anderson secretary and treasurer, Messrs W. J. Clare and W. McDuff vice-presidents, and Mr E. Walton hon. auditor. Messrs H. Dent, S. Phillips, C. McTaggart, G. Phillips, and C. W. Schultz were appointed the committee. FINANCE. Mr Walton moved that the sum ot £6O be set aside annually out of revenue for the purpose of paying off the ’overdraft and the bank interest. ' Mr J. N. Anderson seconded and Mr W. J. Clare supported. Mr W. McDuff disagreed with the motion, contending that the revenue might be used for improving the building. A great improvement could be effected by lining the building. Mr Walton urged that work of this nature should be met by a special appeal to the public. The bank overdraft should be paid off and the guarantors relieved. The motion was carried. The general meeting closed with votes of thanks to the past yebr s officers and the Press. COMMITTEE MEETING. A letter was, received from Mr H. A. Hamilton offering July 31 as the date of the annual picture benefit for the hall. Accounts totalling £3 19s 2d were for payment. Several matters relative to the conducting of hte hall were discussed. The secretary wae instructed to inquire into the matter of the lease cf the stall, and to have a notice exhibited asking those persons who rbdo or drove to the hall to tie up then, horses, as the ground was becoming muddy through the excessive ti amping and trees on neighbouring properties were being damaged.
