ENJOYABLE SOCIAL.

BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY’S EFFORT. The euchre tournament and dance held under the .auspices of the Paeroa Beautifying Society in the Gaiety Theatre last night proved a very enjoyable function. From a financial standpoint the undertaking, was a decided success, a sum of nearly £3O being netted. This money is to be wholly devoted to beautifying the borough, and special attention is to be paid to the newly-formed Taylor’s Avenue. A pleasing feature of last night’s function was the fact that the prizes and supper were generously donated by members and sympathisers. A large number took part in the euchre tournament, which was under the control of Miss M, Shaw, and extra tables, had to be provided jn the supper-room for players. Mr W. Marshall, president of the Beautifying Society, presented the prizes as follows : Ladies, Ist, Mrs A. Kerr, Hikutaia ; 2nd, Mrs Matkovich; 3rd, Miss E. E. Freeman. Men : Ist, T. Killgour, Komata; 2nd, D. Brown; 3rd, H. McKee;

The floor, which was a trifle heavy for dancing at the commencement, improved as the evening wore on. The music dispensed by Mr B. Christian left little to be desired, and a number of extras were contributed by friends. Supper was dispensed by the wives and friends of members.
