The monthly meeting of the Hauraki Drainage Board was not held on Friday last as the presence of the auditor precluded the attendance of the clerk.
The retail price of Anchor butter has been raised to Is lid per lb, the notification being issued by the N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., -Hamilton, at midday to-day.
A reminder is given to those interested that the annual meeting, of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club will, be held at the Dairy Company’s office, Paeroa, on Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock sharp.
The newly-constructed electric suction dredge was towed from its site at the Puke by tlie Public Works Department to a point near Laughlin’s Bend on the Waihou River on Saturday. From this point it is hoped to commence dredging operations towards the end of this week.
There was a small yarding, mostly beef and store cows, .at Messrs A. Buckland and Son’s monthly stock sale at Waitakaruru on Friday last. Beef was selling readily. Practically no young stock was yarded. Prices realised were : Best heavy cows £7 5s to £B, good eows £5 10s to £6 15s, lighter cows. £4 to £5, fleshy cows £3 5s to £3 15s, store cows £2 10s to £3.
A youth appeared before Mr F. & Flatt, J.P., at the Police Court, Paeroa, this morning charged with the theft of a bicycle, valued at £l2, the property of R. Killgour, Komata, on April 24 1 . On the application of the police .a remand was granted until August 3. Defendant was released bn bail in his own surety of £5O and another of £5O.
Further evidence of the intention of the Public Works Department to complete the metalling of the Wai-takaruru-Pokeno road is the fact that the Paeroa-Pokeno railway survey party is now working on the roiid as well ats the railway route. The route of the road is to be considerably improved by straightening, easing bends, widening, and improving the grades. Several big cuttings and fillings are contemplated.
Rather boisterous weather conditions prevailed locally during the middle of last week and culminated in an exceptionally heavy hialstbrm on Friday, (shortly before noon. The fall of hail, which passed over the town from a westerly direction, was the severest experienced this year. After an afternoon of drizzly rain the atmosphere cleared, and Saturday dawned fine. A couple of light showers fell during yesterday, but the barometer rose during last night and conditions look .to be a little more settled to-day. Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.
