GOLF BALL.

AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. In past years the Paeroa Golf Club has earned an enviable reputation for the successful organising of its annual ball. This year’s function, which was held in the. Gaiety Theatre on Friday night, eclipsed all former effort, and was unanimously voted tb have been one of the most enjoyable entertainments of its kind held in the district for many years. The decorations were carried out on a lavish scale, and were as pleasing, as they were original. From the centre ot the ceiling in the ballroom was suspended a huge rase, the petals ot which were cleverly made of crimson paper, the centre being formed by soft electric lights. From this red paper streamers were carried in all directions across to the walls, and a number of small roses, each surrounding an electric light bulb, attached to streamers were suspended with striking effect. Pungas, nikau pa.lms, and other greqnery were tastefully .arranged round the hall, and the stage was a veritable bower of green-: cry where softly-shaded lights glowed prettily. The transformation scene effected in the somewhat dingy supper-room called for special comment. The high, bare walls in this room lent themselves readily to decoration, and here again greenery and bunting formed the main part of the scheme. In the centre of the room was placed a huge punga, the beauty of its foliage bein & brought out to the full by the lighting effects, the whole giving the room the pleasant appearance of a bushy dell. 'The originality and beauty of the scheme evoked much admiration from the. large number of guests present.

An orchestra from Hamilton was engaged for the occasion, and to the strains of irresistible music about eighty couples took the floor. The onerous duties of M’s.C. .wtere attentively discharged by Messrs R. B. Penlington and E. Edwards. A delightful supper was dispensed by the lady members of the club, and hot soup was served to the guests before they departed. The promoters bf the ball heartily deserved the words of praise and congratulation which were liberally accorded them during the evening. Among those present were noticed. Dr. T. G.
