Speaking of the value of side lines to tiie Danish dariy farmer, Mr R. Crowe, Australian Superintendent of Exports, said that, taking everything into consideration, he believed that if the Danish dairy farmer had to rely on his milk products alone tie would be worse off than the dairy farmer of Australia. But every dairyman there went in for the raising of pigs and poultry and the roaring of calves as vealers. Each year bacon to the value of £12,000.(100, eggs to tiie value of £6,000,000, and veal, to the value of £3,000',000 Were exported, so that the returns from the by-pro-ducts of the dairy industry were as great as from the actual milk products, which totalled £21,000,000.

A. representative gathering of about 50 Hauraki Plains cricketers assembled at a smoke concert in the old 'school building at. Members of the Ngatea Football Club and their friends had a very pleasant, picnic trip to New Brighton on Saturday last. The party, numbering 36, made the jouiney by launch, and had lunch under the trees. In the afternoon a football match was played against the local team, ten juniors and two seniors comprising the Ngatea team. After scoring 29 points to 0 the Plains team eased up. The New Brighton team contains several promising playeis, and it is a pity that they could not get into regular matches. After the game the visitors were entertained to tea, and then to a dance. Those who made the trip speak very highly of the hospitality of the New Brighton people, and of the future of the place as a seaside resort when tha road to Waitakaruru is metalled throughout. Its value is already recognised by Aucklanders, and several well-known business men were at New Brighton on Saturday.
What is the lesat injurious form of smoking ? The dotcors favour the pipe. . So does Mr Stanley Baldwin, the British Premier (an inveterate smoker). By the way, Mr Baldwin differentiates between smokers. He says, judging by his experience, pipe smokers take a wider and saner view of things than either _ cigarette or eigar smokers. Be that as it may, the pipe has much to recommend it liygienically. And what of the tobacco ? That is an all-important question. Tobaccos heavily charged with nicotine (like most of the imported brands) cannot be smoked habitually without causing trouble sooner or later. The heart, the nerves, or the general health W bound to suffer. In marked contrast are our New Zealand-grown tobaccos, which, as ii resu-t of the toasting* process to which they arc now subjected, are so pure and so comparatively free from nicotine that they may be indulged in freely with absolute safety. That’s why doctors recoinmehd them. Obtainable in three grades: Riverhead Gold, mild; Navy 'Cut (Bulldog), medium or Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), full strength*.
