PAEROA DOMAIN.
MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Paoroa Domain Board was held on Thursday evening, the chairman (Mr W. Marshall) presiding over the following ; Messns E. A. Porritt, H. J. Hare, J. Pinder, F. E. Flatt, G. P. de Castro, J. W. Slicock, E. Edwards, and the secretary (Mr W. C. Alexander). BOWLING CLUB INQUIRIES. The secretary of the Paeroa Bowling Club wrote requesting a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the bowling green for the past twelve months. It was pointed out that if the information could be .supplied before the club’s annual meeting next month it would assist in obviating the unpleasant position that arose last year. Details of the night lighting of the green were also asked for. The chairman said he thought th® secretary should supply the inlorjnaiton, and he moved that the'requests be granted and returns forwarded. Arising out of the superintendent’s report, Mr de Castro queried the number of hours shown as having been spent by the caretaker on the green. He did ont think the time as shown had -been spent. . Mr Silcock reminded the meeting that at the beginning bf last, season the bowling club had approached the board with various suggestions for the improvement and more economical working of the green. As a result the club had been given practically a free hand in the matter of maintenance of the green and the caretaker’s duties. He was of the opinion that the club had now come to the conclusion that its last season had not been more economically managed than it would have been had the board not allowed the concessions to the club. BOWLS ON ANZAC DAY. Mr Pinder said that he thought the board should prohibit bowls being .played on the green on Anzac Day. Mr de Castro asked what about Good Friday. ~ Mr Flatt remarked that those matters could no doubt be arranged when the club ■ made application for the green foi' the ensuing season. The chairman agreed, and said it Was a matter that could be reviewed when .application was made. NOXIOUS WEEDS. In answer to Mr. de Castro the chairman said that arrangements had been made for the grubbing and burning of gorse on Primrose Hill. Mr de Castro suggested that the fence on the bank facing Thames Road ■ should be tightened up and made tidy. The chairman agreed that a number of matters wanted attention, but everything could not be done with the limited finances available. NOXIOUS WEED-KILLER. Mr Flatt said he had been advised that a chemical weed-killer could be purchased cheaply, and suggested obtaining some and putting it on the gorse and blackberries. Mr de Castro said he believed the mixture was largely composed of sulphate, and although it should not bo expensive to buy ill bulk he was doubtful as to the success of it. The mixture would kill the top of the gorse, but he did not think it wbuld kill the roots permanently, and in any case it would destroy the grass. The chairman thought Mr Flatt’s suggestion was worth looking into. The mixture might be used to advantage on the sides of streets. SUPPLY OF TREES. The Conservator of State Forests advised that 100 J-year-old C LawSoaiana would be forwarded within the next few days. A bundle of pines for experimental purposes would also be forwarded tree of cost.
