THAMES VALLEY BOARD WORKS. MONTHLY REPORTS. At last Tuesday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board the following statements were read MANAGER’S REPORT. “Owing to the recent wet weather very little work has been done in the Tali turn district, and it has been advisable to discontinue further operations until the soft roads permit 01 transport operating. This gang has now been moved to the Gordon section. “Upon the completion of the line to Smcrle’s mill, on Qanal Road, from Ngatea to Kerepeehi, no further .work on this section will be attempted until transport conditions are more favourable. “The Louis Theriault sailed from Port Stephens four weeks ago with a shipment of poles for Kopu, but had to return to Sydney owing to weather conditions not being favourable. There are ample stocks of poles for present requirements, and she should arrive in the course of the next few days. “Elec.tri.dal plants. —The Te Aroha and Thames borough council® were written to with regard to selling their electrical plants, and replies from them are before you. “Loan of £so,ooo.—The resolutions necessary for lifting £50,000, being the second portion of the £150,000 loan, are now to hand from the Public Trustee, .and will require to be dealt with at to-day’s meeting. “Conference Remits, —The list of remits to be considered at the Power Boards’ Conference, which will be held -in Wellington on August 5, has now been received, “Houses at Tirau and Ngatea. — Good progress by the contractor is being made with the troublemen’s lionises, and completion of same should be. made before the next board meeting. “Quite a number of inquiries are being received for electricity supply from isettlers in the .Kaihere and .Patetonga districts, large flaxmill load. If the power is taken by this mill it will mean reticulating a further portion of the KerepeeliiPatetonga line. x . “1 would also recommend that, a canvass be made of the Hoe-o-Tainui district from the Piake. County quarry to the county boundary. It is quite possible that a payable load, is offering, and the settlers have asked for a canvass. “Consumers. —The total number of coiusumers connected to the board's mains at June 30, 1925, yvas 5013, including those of tlje boroughs of Te Aroha and Thames. During last month 87 lighting and heating consumers, 6 stoves, 16 water-heaters, and 10 2-h.p. milking motors were connected on the flat rate. The number of motors connected and operating on farms is 1237, of which 110 are 2-h.p. milking motors. There i® a big demand from . farmers on lines already erected and alive for the installation of. motors tor milking purposes, and a very satisfactory increase in milking motor connections should be experienced before the end of the year.” ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer’s report included the following:— “Bond’s Road. —This, section is now complete, the transformers being made alive on May 29, and all consumers connected were given supply by June 6. “Waitakaruru. —About two miles of poling have been completed on the 11,000-volt line' up Mahutu. Road. . The wiring of the high and low* tension lineis is proceeding, and a transformer structure has been erected. A transformer structure has been erected and a 25 k.v.a. transformer installed on the 11,000-volt line from Waitakaruru to Haley’s Corner. This section will shortly be made alive. “Ngatea { —On the 11,000-volt extension from River Road to Rawera.we Ro'ad some of the poles have been laid out, but delay, is being caused by the owner of one, section refusing us authority ,to go over-his property with bur poles. “Ngatea-Puhanga Canal. —AU main line poles have been laid out to pegs as far as Smerle’s flaxmill. “Supply of power at 11,000 volts was made available' to the Public Works Department’s electric dredge on June 16, and a trial run was made on June 19. Delivery .‘is awaited of one essential piece, of .apparatus, after which the dredge will be put to work. A tap’has been given the department on the 11,000-volt line between the Puke and Netherton; and the department can run its own lines from this tap. The capacity of the motors 1 on the dredge is 300-h.p. “Services run during last month have reached a large number, many new installations having been connected on lines already built, which is a most desirable feature. Outside work has been delayed considerably by the wet Weather during this period.”
