LIVE WIRE DANGER.
WARNING SCHOOL CHILDREN. HELP OF TEACHERS SOUGHT. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board a letter was received from the Waihi Borough Council drawing attention to the fact that children had been noticed playing round transformer stations, and in some cases even attempting to climb pn to the platforms. In view of the danger attendant on such pranks a request was made that warning boards be erected. The manager reported that he had given Instructions for barb-wire to be placed round the platform of transformers. Mr Strange thought that the school teachers might very well co-operate with the board and give the children a lecture on the great danger of interfering with electrical lines and equipment. He moved that the Education Board be approached and asked to instruct its teaching staff to co? operate with the board by giving lectures at regular intervals to the pupils on the utility and dangers of electricity. Seconded by Mr Howie and carried. The chairman (Mr F. H. Claxton) said he heartily agreed with the resolution. Danger notices appeared to be disregarded by many, and although the transformer platforms were erected a. considerable distance from tne ground there was little to prevent children climbing them if they so desired. He understood that the educational authorities would gladly assist power boards in stressing the need for caution where electricity was concerned.
