Staunton wrote drawing attention to the fact that storm-water from upper Hill, Street had been diverted through her property. She requested that the water be taken straight down Hill Street so as to connect with the drain in Taylor’s Avenue. The Mayor said that a difficulty presented itself. Cr. Flatt said that it was a natural watercourse, but the only drain had been filled in. He thought some relief should be afforded if possible. The Mayor pointed out that, if it was a natural watercourse there-was a legal right to discharge the water on to the property, but he agreed tnat .it was desirable to afford some relief. The matter was referred to the works committee, with power to aet. iOVERFLOW FROM DRAIN.

It wasi proposed to erect a 600-galion storage tank near the wharf fo coiunteract the waste of water, and the hardship to other consumers drawing supplies from the same main. In answer to- Cr. Flatt the Mayor said that the tank would be erected for the county’s own protection. Flatt the Mayor stated that no commission had been decided on by the county for the collection of the bridge rate. It was agreed to receive the letter without further comment. LIABILITY FOR RATES. The Education Board, Auckland, in response to a demand for rates on the Paeroa Technical High -School Bite, wrote repudiating liability for rates as the land was unoccupied and held as a reserve. . quantities of chips and fine metal for footpaths. . The Mayor replied that he had visited every quarry in the district, and had great difficulty in obtaining what the council already had received. The cost of procuring chips from Auckland was prohibitive, and Che cost of red metal from McCallum’s Island was about £1 a yard landed at Paeroa.
