THE WEATHER.

LOCAL CONDITIONS. RIVER HIGH AT THE PUKE. The local weather conditions still continue to be boisterous and wet, much heavy rain having fallen during this week, A particularly heavy downpour .was experienced yesterday afternoon and last night. The main outfall drains are coping well with the phenomenal amount of storm water that has accumulated, especially in the low-lying portions of the borough. The Ohinemuri River rose several feet during yesterday afternoon and evening, and this morning observations reveal that it is still rising. No damage has been reported, and it is not anticipated that a serious flobd will occur so far as the Ohinemuri River' is concerned.

At 10 o’clock this morning the Wailiou River was running almost bank high, and was within two feet of the cargo shed at Ngahina wharf. The Taniwha, from Auckland,' arrived at the Puke this morning with a good cargo after a rather protracted trip. A tstrong tide was met with, and t.he heavy flood in the river, caused the steamer to take a long time over the Journey. The narrower the river iJbcamc the more difficult it was to make headway against the current, about two , hours being occupied in the passage from Netherton to the Puke.

Cargo from the Taniwha is being discharged into barges this morning, and goods for Paeroa are either being taken delivery of from the steamed or being stacked on grids in the wharf shed.
