SOCCER.

THE ASSOCIATION CODE. MATCH AT KEREPEEHI. Since its formation a few weeks ago the Association Football Club in Kerepeehi has made rapid progress. A large number of members have enrolled, including many old players, and the enthusiasm shown augurs well for the code in the district. The club has affiliated with the Thames association, to which body the isocecr clubs in Waihi and Waihou have also linked up.

A competition has been arranged between these clubs for a trophy known as the Goldfields Cup, and the first match in which-the Plains team took part was played at Kerepeehi on Saturday last. Being the first match, and playing against a team which had had several games,, the hoine team did not shine out, but great promise was shown. The goalkeeper, W. Shilton, gave a splendid exhibition, and was complimented by the captain of the Thames team on his play. The Thames team played well, giving a good exhibition of how the game should be played. The match ended with the scores' 4 to 0 in favour of the visitors, goals being secured by Blakeman, Jack (2) and one for Thames by a Kerepeehi player.

The Kerepeehi players were :Goalkeepcr, W. Shilton ; backs, F. Smith, J. Beagle ; half-backs, W. Thompson, C. Callander, C. Pearce ; forwards, J. Hands, M. Carson. J. Craig, G. Buswell, and S. Garrett.

The curtain-raiser was a match between the Thames and Kerepeehi juniors. The home team put up a, good game, and gained a victory by 4' gbals to 0. The game was very fast, and considerable promise was shown by the young players, and it augurs well tor the future of Soccer on the Plains. A. McMillan in goal had a very easy time. The goals were scored by R. Simonsen, N. Nicholson (2), and one put in by a Thames man. There was a big crowd bf spectators, all parts of the Plains being represented on the line.

As the conclusion the players were entertained to tea in the hall. On Saturday next the competition will be continued, and the Kerepeehi team will travel to Waihi,
