KEREPEEHI MATTERS.

RATEPAYERS AND COUNCIL. MEETING TO BE HELD. Arising out of the recent meeting of the Kerepeehi Ratepayers’ Association a letter came before the County Council at its meeting on Tuesday inviting Crs. J. C. Miller (county chairman), J. H. Nicholson (riding member), H. J. Hare (Netherten riding), the county clerk and the county engineer to meet too settlers on a.date to be arranged to discuss county administration in general and the metalling of Pekapcka Road in particular.

Cr. Nicholson said that his ratepayers were very dissatisfied. He would like to see the whole council attend the meeting. He moved that the whole council attend the meeting.

Cr. Hare said it was obvious that the settlers were very dissatisfied, and they had good cause to be. They were also very distrustful of the council. The Pekapeka Road settlers had not received a fair deal. Three years ago the council had scarified the metal and scooped it to the side of the road, leaving the settlers nothing but a mud road.

present stated that they did not remember the incident, but pointed out the indecision caused by the adoption of the main highways scheme.

Cr. 4 Madgwick remarked that the road was the luckiest in the county, as the loan money had not been spent, whereas on tnc other roads the money was. gone and so were the metal roads.

Other councillors agreed, and pointed out that the traffic to-day was very much greater than when the loan was raised. The six inches of metal provided for in the loan Would not be worth laying down.

Cr. Hare said that the settlers could not be expected to support a further loan, seeing the way the last loan had been dealt with.

The motion was seconded by Gr. Hare, and after some demur on the part of members resident in distant parts of- the county it was agreed that Cr. Nicholson should make the arrangements. .

The meeting will probably be held on the evening of the next council meeting.
