PAEROA RUGBY UNION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The regular meeting of the executive of the Paeroa Rugby Union was held in Bain’s Rooms on Monday evening, Mr T. P. Vuglar presiding in tne absence of Mr J. W. T. Jones. MATCH WITH PIAKO. The secretary reported that he was endeavouring ,to arrange with the Piako Union to send a B senior team to play a match at Paeroa oil June 13, and was .awaiting a definite reply from Tc Arolia. POSTPONED MATCHES. A lengthy discussion ensued as to whether senior and junior fixtures that had been cancelled on account of weather conditions should be played the following Saturday or be held over until the end of the fixtures, and played then only if the result affected the competition. Finally Mr Hodson moved that the draw as arranged be adhered to, and that the matches set down for decision last Saturday be played at the end of the season. Mr Morrison seconded. Mr Hodson said it was necessary to stick to the draw, so far as tne seniors were concerned, to enable the selector to pick the representative team. Up to the prewent the selector had not seen a Suburbs v. Netherton match. The motion w,as carried. It was decided that other postponed, matches would be dealt with as occasion arose. OFFER OF CAR. The offer of Mr Vuglar to convey the selector and referee to Hikutaia to-morrow was accepted) with thanks. REPRESENTATIVE JERSEYS. Mr Hodson drew attention to the probability of there being three local teams taking part in .representative games on June 16, and that there were only 19 representative jerseys available. After a brief discussion the matter wais left in the hands of Messrs Hodson and Crosby to arrange with the Piako Union. TRAVELLING TEAMS. The matter of cars to convey the seniors players to Waihi and the juniors to Te Aroha pn June 13 was discussed, and it was agreed that the finances of the union would not permit of hiring cars. Mr. Vuglar offered to place his car at the disposal of the team, and it was decided that the members make a canvass of footbalk supporters having cars and ascertain how many would be willing to convey players free to Waihi and Te Arolia. UNFINANCIAL PLAYERS. On the motion of Mr. Pennell and seconded by Mr. Neil, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the Referees’ Association that referees controlling games to-morrow be asked to inform player? that only those who were financial in' their respective clubs would be considered for representative honours. FIELD BOUNDARIES. The question of obtaining a further supply of flags for the local playing fields was left in the hands of Messrs. Vincent and Welsh, with .power to act. Messrs. Neil and Crosby were authorised to procure a marking machine for the purpose of .chalking boundary lines on the two playing fields. BOOSTING RUGBY. A represenative of the ‘'Gazette” waited on the committc and drew attention to the amount of free'publicity accorded the union and the efforts generally of the local papei' to boost Rugby and foster the game in Paeroa and district. In return for tne support so freely given it was suggested that the union, in common with ether unions in the province, should advertise its fixtures each week, thereby making some return to the paper for its efforts. An advertising proposition was put forward and freely discussed, several members graciously acknowledging the efforts of the “Gazette” and the interest and space devoted to football; affairs. It was moved by'Mr Vincent, seconded by - Mr Hodson, that a contract be taken with the “Gazette” for a term of three, months, and that each Wednesday be the recognised day for publishing the fixtures for Saturday in each week.
The matter of'preparing advertisements was left in the ha/nds fo the secretary, with power to act,, INSURANCE OF PLAYERS. It was decided to get into touch with the Ha,uraki Plains Rugby Union in connection with its scheme for insuring players against accident. TO-MORROW’S FIXTURES. Tiie following fixtures for to-mor-row were approved.:— Seniors. —East v. West, at tPaeroa, 3 p.m.; Suburbs v. Netherfcon, at Hikutaia, 3 p.m. Juniors. —West y. Suburbs, at Paeroa (No. 2 ground), 2.30 p.m.; East v. Netherte.li, at Netherton, 3 p.m. > Knrangahake ii, bye. Thrid-grade.— West v. Paeroa School, at Paeroa (No. 1 ground), 1.30 p.m.; East v. NetheHon, at. Netherton, 1.30 p.m.
