The secretary was instructed to ascertain a ruling on several aspects of what is termed the residential qualification. APPEAL BOARD. To obviate the calling together of the management committee more often than is absolutely necessary, it Was decided to set up an appeal board, with power to deal with the suspension of players, proteste, and any urgent business requiring attention before the next match. Messrs C. S. Foster, J. H. Nicholson, and C. Lawrence were appointed. REFEREES. The question of the right of the union to alter the referees appointed by the Referees’ Association was brought up by notice of motion and discussed at length, it being finally agreed that the Referees’ Association submit names to the Union for consideration as in the past, but should the union not consider the appointments satisfactory, the matter would be referred back to the association. MISCONDUCT. In accordance with a notice of motion, a request was made to have an inquiry made into an alleged case of misconduct. The matter was brought up not so much as .to deal with the particular case in question as to establish the right, of the union to deal with any case of misconduct, and after discussion the motion was withdrawn. The union decided that in the event of any club, official, or player indulging in misconduct at any time so as to bring discredit on football the union would hold an inquiry. REPLACEMENTS. The recommendation of the Thames Valley Rugby Union that no player be replaced after half-time was adopted. REPRESENTATIVE MATCH.
In reply to a delegate the secretary reported that no date had been received from the Thames Rugby Union for the Birch Cup match. In view of the fact that the Poland Cup fixtures would commence on June 13, it was decided to hold a Possibles v. Probables match at Ngatea on Saturday next, June 6. This match will commence at 2.30 p.m., a junior match of the same kind will commence at 2 p.m., and a third-grade match at 1,30 p.m. RESIGNATION. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr G. Porteous, delegate for the Turua club and one of the senior members of the union, intimated his intention of resigning as he was leaving on Monday to reside in Ohinewai. The president and several members voiced regret at losing Mr Porteous, and it was unanimously decided that he be made a life-member of the union. INSURANCE. As a result of extended inquiries by the secretary a method has been found whereby footballers and others can become insured against accident during non-working hours, wnen they would ordinarily be covered by the provision of the Workers’ Compensation Act., for the low rate of £1 6s 3d per annum. This premium gives cover for one year for any accident, the benefit for temporary total disablement through accident being £3 weekly for a period up to 52 weeks. Full information can be obtained from the secretary. The matter was considered by the Ngatea club recently, and by resolution the members were advised to use this method of effecting inisurance.
