No rain fell during the progress of the football matches on the Plains on Saturday, and though the playing fields were wet they were not slippery. NGATEA V. WAITAKARURU.
Waitakaruru.—C. Stretton, Rhind, Whelan, Williscroft, Quintal, C. Clark, Hamilton, Laing, Berney, Preston, W. Williams, Shaw, L. Williams, Hunt, McPherson.

This game commenced at Waitakaruru at 2.50, the home team taking the field with 11 men. Ngatea won the toss and gave the advantage of the wind to the opposing iside. From the kick-off Ngatea worked up the field, but Waitakaruru broke through and compelled a force, Play was in midfield until the Ngatea backs with a good passing rush scored a try, which was not converted. The arrival of Whelan, Shaw, Williscroft, and C. Stretton bruoght iWaitakaniru up to full strength, and play was taken to Ngatea’s quarter,, but no score resulted from a free kick. Ngatea gained ground from the dropout, but a mark returned play to Ngatea’s territory, where close play ensued, the defenders gaining the advantage.
After the change over Waitakaruru had a period on the defensive, and twice had to force. A penalty for passing off the ground gave Ngatea three points, making the scores Ngatea 6, Waitakaruru O'. Play ranged up and down the field until half-time, Ngatea having a Blight advantage. The second half opened with the visitors defending, and Waitakaruru almost scored with a free kick well followed up, two scrums and much close play eventuating no Ngatea’s line. Ngatea eventually relieved, and for the remainder of the round play was in Waitakaruru’s half of the field. Play was hard, and both teams did some good work, Waitakaruru making several good rallies but failing to hold the advantage.
Ta the final round play ranged from one end of the field to the other, Wai- - takaruru improving as .time went on and keeping the visitors more and more on the defensive. C. Stretton nicely drop-kicked a goal, making the scoers Ngatea 6, Waitakaruru 4. flay remained in Ngatea’s territory until the call of time. Mr D. G. McMillan was referee. COAST V. KEBEPEEHI.
Kerepeehi.—M. Baggs, Roti, W. Pratt, G. Masters, J. Connor, P, Randall, W. Kidd, T. Rapana, L. Killgour, T. Oneroa, L. Hira, Nathan, T. Renata, S. Hira, R. Steedman.
Coast.—Clark, Hale, Taylor, Whalen, Wallis, Hooper, O'Neill and Dalgety, Dalgcty, Ivan, Corbett, Gill, Peckham, Wallis, Jones.
This m.atch was played at Koptiaj ahi and proved a fast, open game. Kerepeehi had the heavier team, but the Coast played better football. Rapana, who was the outstanding player, secured one try for Kerepeehi, the' other pointe being notched with a penalty goal.
Coast registered two tries and one penalty goal. Mr G. T. Davidson was referee.
