was appreciated by vsiitors and by local residents. It is to be hoped that this visit will prove one of many during.the coming summer evenings. Your committee had to depend largely upon the shopkeepers for the financial success of this undertaking, and the thanks of this chamber, and of the public, are due to them for their assistance.

“Your committee regrets to report that during the year the chamber lost two of its members in the death of Mr Asher Cassrels, a foundation member, and Mr F. J. Wells.

“With reference to the ■ balancesheet, your committee has pleasure in stating that on this occasion the Chamber is able to rhow a credit balance of £l5 6s id, liabilities £1 (two subscriptions -id in advance), and a surplus of asset.- oier liabilities amounting to £l9 6s 4d. Tbip position is largely due to the fact that members paid up their current year’s subscriptions. There are still subscriptions outstanding of £2 up to March 31, 1924, of which £1 is considered doubtful, and which your committee recommends should be written off. Also outstanding as at March 31, 1925, an amount of £5 lte, of which £1 10s is considered doubtful, and which your committee recommends should be written off.

“It is clear that this satisfactory position can only be maintained provided all subscriptions are paid. Your committee therefore requests that members will keep this in view, as lack of funds will seriously impede the Chamber hi its endeavours for the betterment of Paeroa and the eurrounding district. “Under the rules Messrs Buchanan, Edwards, de Castro, and Farrar retire from the committee, but all are eligible. for re-election.

“A vote of thanks is due to Mr Steedman, the auditor ; to the Ohinemuri County Council for the use of the chambers for meetings, and to the “Hauraki Plains Gazette” for the manner in which it has reported the various meetings.

“Your committee again regrets to state that towards the end of the year interest in the Chamber waned and the attendance at meetings wais considerably reduced. As the members of this Chamber represent largely the business interests of the community, it is only right that members should attend the meetings in order that all matters coming before the chamber •may 1 be considered and dealt with by a large and representative gathering, and that the resolutions passed may have the full wieght of the business people of Paeroa behind them. “It is pleasing to note that Paeroa has advanced well on the road of progress and prosperity during the past year, and all members of this Chamber are urged to use their best endeavours to further this progressive movement. In reviewing the past few years, it appears as though the turning point has been passed and we are now likely te make a steady advancement on sound lines. While your Chamber can take credit for some assistance in this, it must be remembered that it is only by wholehearted co-operation that any progress can be made, and the members are urged not to slacken their interest in the work of the Chamber in the future but, by attendance at its meetings and full discussion of all matters brought forward, do their utmost to assist to .carry on the work that has been done in. the past to advance the town and surrounding district."
