THE WEATHER.
EASTERLY GALE PREVAILS.
NO DAMAGE REPORTED.
Since the beginning of the week the weather locally has been very boisterous. On Monday several light showers fell, and the eky was grey and the cloufis rain-laden.
Early 041 Tuesday morning a strong easterly wind arose and continued throughout the day, and towards evening it assumed almost hurricane force, accompanied by heavy rain. Wednesday morning dawned fine, although a stiff easterly wind was blowing. As the day wore on the sky again became overcast, and during the afternoon and evening further heavy rain fell. Yesterday the conditions were simi-. lar to tnosc prevailing early in the week.
Owing to the exceptionally dry autumn iccorded the storm-water has been quickly absorbed, and at. midday yesterday the Ohinemuri River had only risen ten inches. The rain has been particularly .welcome so far as the farmers are concerned. As the weather during the week has been very mild, the warm rain has, done an inestimable amount of gbod and will greatly assist the promotion of growth of grass and root crcps before the hard frosts set in. To date no damage has been reported other than that done to gardens ami shrubs.
