Unions are asked to forward nominations, together with full particulars.

A protest against some action of the referee in the Waitakararu-United match on Saturday was lodge! by tlie president of the Coast club on Monday and endorsed by his club on Monday evening.

Great interest , was taken in the third-grade match between teams representing Waitakaruru and Ngatea, and Turua, which was played at Ngatea. Probably more spectators watched thi;j game than either of the other two games. It was a good exhibition, and ihe keenness shown augurs well for the future. The Turua team was the heavier, and won by 8 points—two tries, one of which was converted. The United Coast Football Club, at a meeting pn Monday evening, passed a vote of with Mrs 11 Ryan and decided to hold a benefit function for their injured clubmate. It will take the form of a plain and fancy dress ball, ami will be held in the Pipiroa Hall oa June 2. A launch will be provided to transport, people over the river front Kopuarahi and from Thames. The Waitakaruru Club has arranged a benefit concert and dance for June 17. The second of the series of lectures on the game of Rugby was given by Mr A. McClean to members bf the Waitakaruru Cllub on Friday evening last. Mr McClean explained the rules and. tactics of tlie indiivdual playeis, after which Mr. C. A. Hayward explained many mo/re points and answered questions/

Despite the decision of the union that all matches must commence at 2.30 p.m., play' did not start at Kerepeehi on Saturday until 3.10 p.m. The match at Ngatea commenced at 2.50. The state of the junior ground at Kerepeehi on Saturday was such that no team should'.have been expected to play tn it. The West team at first refused to play, but later decided to go on rather than win by default. Efforts have been made to level off the lumps caused by stock tramping over the ground during the past winter, but owing to the hardness of tlie ground practically no improvement has bfvn effected.

The Referees’ Association at its weekly meeting on Tuesday evening appointed the following referees for the matches to-morrow:

Ngatea v. Kerepeehi, at Kerepeehi, Messrs D. G. McMillan (seniors), and A. McClean (juniors) ; Waitakaruru v. Turua, at Turua, Messrs J. Kidd (seniors) and G. T. Davidson (juniors); Hauraki West y. United Coast, at Pipiroa, Mr J. N. Anderson ; thirdgrade, at Turua, Mr M. Leonard.
