PAEROA HOSPITAL.

TENDERS TO BE CALLED. APPROVAL OF MINISTER. At Monday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital Board a letter was received from the acting Director-General of Health, Wellington giving consent, for the calling of tenders for the erection of a maternity and casualty hospital at Paeroa. The letter stated that as the estimated cost of .the building was in excess of that obtained in ether districts, before the recommendation of the Hon. Minister and his consent were obtained it would be advisable for the board to submit lenders. Mr Brenan said that the letter contained welcome news. He reported that the department’s construction expert had been in Paeroa, and in company with the architect and himself had made an inspection of the sit'?, of the proposed building, and the expert had pronounced the opinion that the site was an excellent one. Mr Brenan moved that alternative tenders be called, returnable to the board not later than the August mcetSeconded by Mr A. R. Robinson anl carried. The chairman remarked that the extra levy on the contributory local bodies had been spread over a period of two years, and that if tenders were returned in time for the August meeting and then sent forward for the Minister's consent sufficient time would be available.
